I am a wedding planner and event coordinator based in northeast Alabama serving my area and beyond. My mission is to help you have the wedding planning journey of your dreams and enjoy every minute along the way. The best tip I can give you for right after saying "YES" to forever with your special person, is to enjoy the season of engagement!
Here are my expert tips on what exactly you should do as soon as you get engaged.
Insure That Beautiful Ring!

Get ring insurance!
You don't want anything to happen to your engagement ring, but if it does, you want to be protected!
Celebrate This New Season Of Engagement
Before you jump into your wedding planning journey, take this time to celebrate, reflect, and take it all in. Wedding planning can be very time and energy consuming. You want to acknowledge the season of engagement before you start your planning journey!
Envision Your Dream Day
Before making any wedding planning decisions, take some time to envision your dream wedding experience.
How do you want to plan it? How long do you want to be engaged? How much time do you want to put towards planning? For your wedding day.. where are you? What do you see? Who's there with you?
Decide On A Budget
Decide what you can afford to put into this dream day.
Look up average wedding costs in your area, and decide what is doable and won’t leave you with regrets. Will family be helping with the budget or will you be covering the costs?
Set Your Priorities
Setting your priorities first will set you up for success throughout the rest of your planning journey!
Choose your priorities with every vendor category and the overall feel of the wedding day. Do you prioritize your food over your venue? Your photos over your entertainment? Your gown over your flowers? What matters more to you than the rest?
List your priorities in order from highest to lowest priority to decide how much of your budget you want to put towards each section.
Decide The Vibe
You don't have to choose every aspect of décor/color scheme right off the bat, but you should have an idea of the vibe.
This will also play a role in choosing your vendors and especially the venue!
Hire A Planner
Research planners in your area that fit your aesthetic, values, budget, and primary focus for what you want to achieve. Personality will also be a big factor in choosing your planner because you will work very closely with them.
Wedding planners have a network of vendors that they highly recommend so that you don't have to do all of the research yourself! Of course, you can choose any vendor you like, but a planner will be able to tell you what vendors they think would be perfect for you and your partner based on budget, aesthetic, personality, location, etc. This will save you so much time researching vendors and you will know that the vendors referred to you are highly recommended from couples and wedding professionals.
Your planner will guide you on your planning journey to save you time & energy and create a seamless planning experience that you can enjoy. There are endless benefits to having a professional planner. Vendor research & communication, timeline creation, design guidance, budget tracking, planning resources, just to name a few!
Get An Idea Of Guest Count
Draw up a guest list, this doesn't have to be final or complete, but get an idea of how many guests you want to invite to your wedding.
This factors in with choosing a venue and creating your budget. Venues all have a max capacity of how many guests they can accommodate so you will need to have an idea of your guest count before touring venues. The amount of guests also affect your budget when it comes to catering, rentals, cake, etc. More guests = more $$$!
Choose A Season
Choose a season and the year you would like to get married!
You don't want to get your heart set on a specific month, especially not a specific date, because the venue/vendors you are interested in may not have that available. Be open and book your priorities first!
